VBM is a managerial approach that uses value as its matric to influence de decision making progress at all levels. The philosophy behind this is that by making decision and taking actions based on how much value they add to the company shareholders and stakeholders, managers will be force to focus more on strategy and less on the now (the trap) allowing manager to always to make the correct decision for shareholders and stakeholders.

The phenomenon of family businesses is more common than you think; it is one of the most common forms in business. Only in the United States, these companies represent 50% of GDP, 60% of jobs and even 35% of the Fortune 500 companies. In Latin America, the figure is even higher: 9 out of 10 companies are familiar businesses. Most of these are long-lived companies founded in the early twentieth century, with many years of history and generations of executives. In many cases, successful intuitive management and the absence of threats that has made these companies endure the different economic circumstances of the last century.

Goethals Consulting has developed an innovative analysis tool called "Business Evaluation", which allows diagnose problems or opportunities for the improvement of a company. The tool collects data through a questionnaire in four key areas: Strategic planning, organizational and functional structure, operational structure and economic and financial resources. Each category comprises a series of questions that, at the same time, are grouped in different perspectives. Thus, the findings go from the general to the specific, allowing the company to know where in the value chain the opportunities are. The tool has already been used in several companies, giving very successful and concrete results.
